Rail services are being disrupted throughout the Super City as Auckland Transport (AT) conducts infrastructure upgrades.
This includes work on three new station bridges to replace level crossings, track renewals and progress on the three new Drury Stations.
A network-wide dress rehearsal is also underway to enable the City Rail Link (CRL) to progress faster, AT chief executive Stacey van der Putten confirms.
“We know that a rail closure on a standard working weekday is disruptive for our customers and we’d like to extend a huge thank you to them for their ongoing patience as we do the final checks and upgrades before opening CRL.”
The closures are in place from today (July 9) until this Sunday (July 12). However, they will enable AT to fast-track improvements and act, effectively, as a network-wide dress rehearsal for the CRL.
“Great progress is being made on three station bridges to replace level crossings. These improvements will be transformative in the way Aucklanders move around our city and improve safety and connectivity. The Matariki weekend rail closure is one of the last big pushes before we open your new network.”
While trains will be sidetracked, passengers won’t be left stranded, van der Putten adds.
“To keep Aucklanders moving, we’ve put on express buses for the Southern and Western Line, and we’ll be monitoring bus reliability and capacity throughout the weekend to make sure there are plenty of transport options available”.
