Warmer weather means a teeming town centre for wonderful Waiuku.
As more Kiwis start heading for the coast, the town is gearing up for a busy spring and summer with all sorts of events and reasons to get outside, the Waiuku Business and Development Association’s Michelle Crow confirms.
“We’re lucky to have places such as Karioitahi Beach, the Awhitu Peninsula, regional parks and the Manukau Heads Lighthouse bringing people into the area,” she says.
“We get people coming home to spend time with family and friends, as well as visitors and day-trippers out this way.”
There is no shortage of entertainment planned for Waiuku in the coming months.
First up is Twilight Eats & Beats (October 2, 4-7pm) during which families will come together to enjoy music, local eateries and kids’ activities in the town centre.
On October 24, the town centre will see local retailers put on a spring garage sale, coinciding with the Franklin Arts Trail (Labour Weekend, October 24–26), the event is expected to be buzzing with bargain hunters.
Looking a little further down the track, December is a very busy month thanks to the Waiuku Christmas Festival and Parade on December 5, again promising a lively event including colourful floats helping to ring in the festive season.
Crow hopes travellers will pop into town to support the local businesses throughout the holiday season, with a Waiuku Christmas Shopping Day planned for December 12, 10am-1pm.
“We’d love to see more of these visitors stop in Waiuku to grab a coffee or something to eat, have a look around the shops and see what our town has to offer,” she says.
Further helping to wrap up Christmas is Santa’s Grotto, which is open December 17,18 and 22, from 10am–1pm.
Just one local business anticipating a rewarding summer, Glow Restaurant & Bar was recently voted People’s Choice at the Auckland Business Awards, South and East.
“It’s a great achievement for the whole Glow team,” Crow adds. “It’s something that Waiuku can be really proud of.”
Waiuku has much to be proud of, as many first-time and return visitors will soon see first-hand.
