Young thespians from Papakura are set to break a leg this weekend – to deliver a show-stopping performance, that is.
StageAntics South Auckland is bringing the vibrant world of Madagascar JR to the stage at the Due Drop Events Centre in Manukau, with performances running from today until Sunday.
The production includes four dedicated schools’ performances, providing more than 2500 students with the opportunity to experience live musical theatre, alongside three public performances for families and the wider community.
The cast features talented young actors from across Auckland including Papakura locals, StageAntics’ Emma Bishop confirms.
“We’re thrilled to be presenting a full-scale production at the Due Drop Events Centre and showcasing the incredible talent of our region’s young performers,” she says.
“The cast has been rehearsing twice weekly since the end of last term, preparing to bring this energetic and much-loved musical to life on one of south Auckland’s premier stages.”
The Papakura contingent includes Sofia and Alex Bergman, Imogen Steele, Jackson and Zoe Judge, Quinn Williams and Will Mohi.
Based on the hit animated film, Madagascar, which follows the adventures of animals from New York’s Central Park Zoo, this version has been adapted for the stage and specifically for younger performers.
Talented people on stage are backed by talented people behind the scenes.
“The show is directed by Willie Rapana, with musical direction by Katie-Rose Pemberton and choreography by Katirenna Naicker,” Bishop adds.
“StageAntics has been part of the south Auckland youth performing arts community since 2017, creating opportunities for young people to develop confidence, creativity and performance skills.”
