The Independent Police Conduct Authority (IPCA) has revealed it’s investigating complaints made about Police Commissioner Richard Chambers.
“The IPCA has received complaints which concern the Commissioner of Police,” the organisation said in a statement today, June 25.
“These are being investigated by the IPCA and police.
“We are actively overseeing the police component of the investigation; this includes ensuring the integrity of the investigation is maintained.
“We recognise there is a high level of public interest in complaints which involve senior police officers.
“It is important these complaints are appropriately assessed and follow normal complaint processes.
“In accordance with the principles of fair process and natural justice for the parties involved, we will not be making any comment about the substance of these complaints until the investigations are concluded.”
News media are reporting that Police Minister Mark Mitchell’s office has said Mitchell is aware of the complaints made about Chambers.
Chambers, who became Police Commissioner in November, 2024, has strongly rejected the claims made about him, the details of which have not been made public.
He says he will co-operate fully with the investigation and looks forward to having the matter dealt with.
