Enza was found wandering the streets of Huntly with a badly damaged back leg; she was alone and in need of help.
Waikato District Council’s animal control team took her directly to Global Vets where she received medication to keep her comfortable while we waited for her owners to come forward.
After the mandatory seven day holding period passed without anyone coming forward to claim her, it became clear the best way to give Enza a happy, pain-free future was to amputate the injured leg.
That’s where long-time partners Fundraising for Impounded Dogs stepped in.
Using money donated by the Pound Pup Pool Party back in April, they helped cover the cost of Enza’s life-changing surgery at GT Vets.
“Every dog deserves a second chance, and Enza is a perfect example of what can happen when people come together to help,” says Hayley [surname withheld)], an animal control education and engagement officer.
“She’s gone from facing an uncertain future to enjoying life, and now all she needs is a forever family to complete her journey.”
Now recovering in a foster home with an animal control officer, Enza has settled in beautifully.
She’s making friends with all sorts of weird and wonderful animals, soaking up plenty of affection, and proving every day that life on three legs is just as full of adventure.
Enza has healed beautifully and found her “furever home” – proving that life on three legs is no obstacle to living it to the fullest.
Her journey could have ended very differently, but thanks to the kindness, generosity and teamwork of everyone involved, Enza now has the second chance she deserves and a bright future ahead.
• Work is underway to award a contract for the council’s new Tuakau Satellite Dog Pound on Bollard Road. The council says the facility will service the northern zones of the district by providing temporary accommodation for up to 16 dogs and acting as an overflow to the centralised dog pound in Ngaruawahia, adding a local option for those in the northern areas of the district.
