While it is advisable to take out time on winter roads, it appears that NZTA is moving full speed ahead.
Crews working on the extensive Papakura to Drury project are prepared to work through winter, the NZ Transport Agency’s (NZTA) Stephen Collett told the Times.
“The project continues make solid progress even as we head into winter,” he says. “There’s good momentum on the bridges in particular, with piling works well underway for the State Highway 1 crossing at Great South Road. Structures being built at Slippery Creek (Otuuwairoa Stream) and Bremner Road (Ngaakooroa Stream) now taking shape as well.”
Another unmissable sign that work is progressing is a large retaining wall in Drury.
“We’re also making great progress on the retaining wall near Counties Readymix which is visible from the southbound side of the motorway,” Collett adds. “Overall, it’s a very busy project with multiple work fronts all actively in build mode, which is positive to see.”
A key cog in the wheel, the Drury Interchange is taking shape. It will expand motorway capacity, as well as walking and cycling paths, to support housing and population growth, NZTA expects.
