Weaving around and through Paerata Rise is a network of trails for walkers and cyclists.
Paerata Rise is designed to be both walker and cyclist friendly — an outer city oasis offering
endless opportunities to explore. Next to the adventure playground in Paerata Rise is the Rise ‘n Shine Cafe. Stop here at the start of your trip and ask for a map of the outdoor trails/play areas. Rise ‘n shine also usually offers free children’s activities during the school holidays too, so be sure to follow them for all details.
One of the more enchanting trails is off Te Rātā Boulevard and is easily accessible from the
Paerata roundabout on State Highway 22.
Keep your eyes open for the little fairy houses dotted alongside the walk, great for the younger walkers (or those young at heart). There are several benches available with a larger, shaded area which is perfect for taking a break or catching up with friends.
The walk finishes at Tirikatene Avenue, a short walk away from the 30-metre flying fox off Te Paea Avenue.
These walks are great for dogs too – keep them on leash for the duration of the walk and you can finish up at the Te Rātā Boulevard end and cross the road to Central Bark.
The dog park is equipped with a fully fenced area (the riverbank is not fenced off), obstacles for active pups, and ample open fields for dogs to run and play. Dog owners will appreciate the shaded seating areas and the convenience of nearby free parking – making it a great starting point for your walk and a great finishing point for popping your dog back into the car for those coming a little further away.
