Sandy Littlejohns-Clark is well known for her distinctive, bold style, which she uses to describe the changing world around her.
These days, it’s in Drury that she finds most of the inspiration for her work.
“The magnitude of the metamorphosis taking place in Drury is considerable,” she says. “It is the overarching aspect of my work and, hopefully, both a timely and relevant representation of the recent past and the near future.”
Development in Drury has seen the area change greatly.
“What I have been endeavouring to do in my abstract landscapes is capture the sense of connection to place and bear witness to the inescapable change.”
Late last year, some of Littlejohns-Clark’s work was showcased during the Landscape of Change exhibition at Papakura Art Gallery.
“The exhibition explored that change via the contrast of foundation with disruption,” she says.
Her work has been widely exhibited, including during the Clevedon Art Trail, and she also leads regular workshops.
“I’ve recently relocated my studio to my home after previously being based at Ardmore,” she adds. “We’ve raised our family in Drury – I’ve lived in south Auckland for most of my life and I’ve been an active contributor to the local arts scene.”
