A recently completed $4 million expansion of a south Auckland campus will strengthen job opportunities across the region, Skills Group CEO Rosanne Graham expects.
“This project is about much more than a building, it’s about creating opportunities – for learners beginning their careers, employers developing their workforce and for our community to come together.”
The expansion to the Skills Institute campus in Wiri was opened by Penny Simmonds, Minister for Tertiary Education. The opening was attended by Skills Group board members, industry partners, community representatives and other guests.
The centrepiece of the new build is a multi-purpose theatre, alongside classrooms, including flexible, multi-functional learning spaces. Together, they provide an expanded, high-quality environment designed for the way people learn, connect and work, Graham says.
“The environments we create matter. They should encourage people to connect, share ideas and see what’s possible. This new theatre gives us a space to do exactly that,” she adds.
“As a charitable trust, we reinvest our surpluses back into our people, programmes and campuses. This investment is another example of that commitment in action.”
Last year, more than 9,700 people studied with Skills Institute. The campus delivers vocational education across a range of disciplines, including healthcare, hospitality, business, IT, real estate, English language, foundation education and more.
