Sometimes good news is history. An upcoming online workshop is set to assist in the application process for Auckland Council’s 2026 Regional Historic Heritage Grant Programme (RHHGP).
People and organisations looking to help preserve a heritage place should apply for a grant, council’s Community Committee councillor Julie Fairey advises.
“Auckland’s historic heritage should be cherished and be visible for residents and visitors to get a glimpse into the region’s colourful and diverse past,” she says. “These grants make a real contribution to help preserve, enhance and celebrate heritage taonga in Tāmaki Makaurau.”
Heritage buildings and archaeological sites throughout the region provide tangible links to our shared history, she adds.
Individuals, iwi, community groups and trusts can all apply for up to $50,000 for the preservation of heritage places.
Applications are open now, closing September 14.
Funding priorities include:
- Conservation of regionally significant historic heritage places, including places in a historic heritage area
- Conservation of at-risk historic heritage places, including initiatives which address the impacts of climate change
- Supporting kaitiakitanga of Māori cultural heritage places
