Fresh energy is set to bolster Counties Energy’s board. Dr Cristiano Marantes, an energy and infrastructure executive, has now taken a seat at the electricity distributor’s top table.
Marantes says he is excited to join the board at a pivotal time for the company and the wider energy sector.
“Counties Energy serves one of New Zealand’s fastest-growing regions and plays a critical role in supporting the region’s economic growth and social wellbeing of its communities,” he says.
“The business has a strong reputation for forward-thinking leadership and network performance. I look forward to contributing to its continued success and helping to position the network for the opportunities and the challenges ahead.”
Marantes’ appointment strengthens the board’s expertise in electricity networks, infrastructure investment, asset management and energy innovation as well as regulatory governance, Counties Energy’s chair Keith Watson confirms.
His appointment ensures that the board has the capabilities needed to guide the business through an increasingly complex operating environment, Watson says.
“Cristiano is a respected energy leader and brings a combination of technical expertise, strategic leadership and governance experience. His insight will be an asset to Counties Energy as we navigate an evolving energy sector.”
Marantes will draw on experience as a (now former) head of infrastructure at financial services provider, Simplicity, as chief executive of Ara Ake, New Zealand’s national energy innovation centre and while undertaking roles at Vector and UK Power Networks.
Combining senior leadership and governance expertise, his abilities align strongly with Counties Energy’s strategic priorities. Watson adds that he will prove especially valuable in a rapidly growing region.
