Some of the nation’s brightest sparks will lay it all on the line in Pukekohe, organisers of the Annual Connection competition have confirmed.
Showcasing the skills that power the energy industry, the contest sees line mechanic crews, cable jointers and energy trainees from across New Zealand compete in hands-on challenges as their real-world skills are put to the test.
This year’s event will be held at Pukekohe Showgrounds in October.
“Annual Connection 2026 is set to be an incredible event,” Counties Energy chief executive Judy Nicholl says. “We’re proud to host, bringing together the very best in skill, innovation and teamwork and demonstrating the dedication that drives our sector.
“We look forward to welcoming crews from across Aotearoa and sharing with our communities a first-hand view of the people and collaboration that keep New Zealand powered, connected and resilient every day.”
Managed by Connexis, the event provides more than just a chance to compete – it includes a schools’ programme for students keen to learn about careers in the sector that can be built on apprenticeship training and qualifications.
In addition, crews are able to share knowledge and techniques, Connexis’ executive director Kaarin Gaukrodger says.
“Annual Connection connects teams and individuals from across New Zealand. These are the people that head out in the worst weather conditions and during emergencies to keep our communities connected, safe and healthy,” she adds.
“It’s fantastic to bring Annual Connection back to the North Island this year. We’re excited to welcome crews from across the country to Pukekohe.”
