Three people have been charged after a firearm was discharged during a road rage incident last week, say Counties Manukau Police.
At about 5pm on August 26, police say they received a report of a crash involving two vehicles on Ronwood Avenue in Manukau.
Detective inspector Shaun Vickers, of Counties Manukau Police CIB, says the confrontation on Ronwood Avenue occurred after an initial altercation in a nearby car park moments earlier.
He says two men allegedly exited one of the vehicles and discharged a firearm into the driver’s side of the windscreen.
Both vehicles have then driven onto Ronwood Avenue and continued the altercation, which has been captured on video and shared on social media.
“Officers have made several enquiries and arrested and charged three people in relation to this incident,” says Vickers.
“Three men, aged 37, 28, and 27, have been remanded in custody and charged with multiple offences including discharging a firearm, assault with intent to injure, and dangerous driving.
“It’s incredibly lucky no one was injured.”
Vickers says police are also aware of the video circulating on social media in relation to this incident.
“We strongly urge the community to cease posting photos or personal details of these individuals on social media.
“Police are pleased these men have been held to account for this violent behaviour.
“If anyone has concerns or information relating to offending that is occurring, this should be reported to police immediately so it can be dealt with appropriately.”
Vickers says police are also seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed the incident and hasn’t yet spoken to them to come forward.
“Anyone with information that can assist our investigation is urged to contact police through 105 online or by phone, referencing file number 260826/8218.”
