The Franklin Arts Festival Society is expecting this year’s Frankly Small exhibition will be (literally) a little bigger.
Beginning with an opening night event on September 11 at the Franklin Arts Centre, the exhibition will then run until September 26.
Entries need to be no bigger than 40 centimetres wide by 40cm high, which means they are a little larger than last year. The exhibition includes categories for 2D and 3D works with youth and schools’ sections open for students.
The society is aiming to encourage younger, budding artists to share their work in particular, Charlotte Butcher confirms.
“We’re hoping to get more entries from the area’s youth this year. We’re working with local teachers to promote the event to their students.
“There’s no barrier to young people – if they don’t have the means to pay an entry fee, they can still enter their work,” she says. “We want to encourage local youth. It will be a great boost to their confidence and may encourage them to continue pursuing their passion for art, as a career or to take it more seriously if they receive a little encouragement.”
Volunteer-run, the Franklin Arts Festival Society helps local artists share and sell their work. Hundreds of artworks will be on show, all intended to prove that big things do come in small packages.
Entry fees are $15 per piece with a limit of three per artist. Entry to the exhibition is by gold coin donation. Prizes range from $100 to $2000 for the recipient of the event’s Supreme Award.
