The Labour Party says the government is asking Kiwis to vote for cuts without telling them where the axe will fall.
“National has told New Zealanders what it won’t do. Now it needs to tell them what it will do,” says Labour campaign chair Kieran McAnulty.
“If you’re ruling out revenue, you have to cut spending. So what are you going to cut?
“More nurses? More hospital services? More frontline workers? More support for families?
“New Zealanders have a right to know what National is planning to take away from them.
“We’ve already seen what their approach means for health. After two years, they’ve delivered just 54 additional nurses across the entire country while our hospitals are under huge pressure.
“And now they want New Zealanders to trust them with another three years of cuts without telling them where those cuts will land.
“Putting everything on the chopping block is not responsible government.
“Labour has a plan and we will be upfront about our choices.
“We’ll fund better access to primary healthcare with three free GP visits and free prescriptions. Our simple targeted capital gains tax, which nine out of ten Kiwis won’t pay, is ring-fenced to invest back into the health system.
“National needs to come clean before the election: what are you going to cut?” Kieran McAnulty says.
