Police will be monitoring a large bike ride planned for south Auckland this weekend, with officers maintaining a visible presence to help ensure the safety of all road users.
Although the exact route is yet to be confirmed, police are confident that it will not include the Papakura/Franklin areas, the Times has been advised.
Police have taken enforcement action at similar events following concerning road safety breaches and disruptive behaviour. Participants must comply with the road rules and behave responsibly at all times, says Inspector MinHo Lee, Counties Manukau Police.
“[We] have previously received reports of riders blocking roads, intimidating motorists, performing dangerous manoeuvres, swarming vehicles, and engaging in anti-social behaviour. Such behaviour creates unnecessary risks to participants, motorists, pedestrians and the wider community.”
Illegal, dangerous, intimidating, or anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated. Where offences are identified, officers will take appropriate enforcement action either at the time or through subsequent enquiries, Lee confirms.
“Our roads are there for everyone, and all road users should be able to travel safely and without disruption. Police encourage all participants to make good decisions, follow the road rules, and help ensure the event is conducted safely for everyone involved.”
