Four new faces have recently joined the front line across Pukekohe and Papakura as the one of the latest groups of New Zealand Police graduates begin their careers.
With their initial training now completed, these new officers are all bringing fresh blood to the police force, fresh boots to the beat and a new generation of support to the community.
The recruits are part of a wider deployment of 53 new constables who are now beginning their duties at various stations throughout the Auckland region.
Constable Greggory Fisher, who is to be stationed in Papakura, says he joined the force so that he could be there for people when they need it most.
“It is a privilege to support people through those [tough] moments,” he says. “I hope that by treating everyone with compassion and respect, I can make a positive difference locally.”
For Fisher, one of the biggest appeals of policing is the variety it offers – no two days are the same when serving on the thin blue line.
“Every day brings new challenges, the opportunity to work with many members of the community, respond to real-world situations and make a positive difference in people’s lives each day,” Fisher says.
Wing 396 graduated 49 new constables from the Royal New Zealand Police College (RNZPC) in Porirua, while Wing 397 graduated 34 recruits from the Auckland Police campus.
The new constables come from all sorts of diverse backgrounds. Some have served in the military, others are tertiary graduates and some are following in the footsteps of family members who have also been on the front line of New Zealand policing.
Since the officers have been deployed, they have been out patrolling streets, breaking in their new blues and getting to know the communities they now serve.
For residents of Papakura and Pukekohe, these new police officers will soon become familiar as they settle into their roles.
