Three stolen vehicles speeding along Maraetai Coast Road came to an abrupt halt early this morning thanks to police.
The vehicles caught the attention of the Eagle helicopter shortly before 3.30am. The two Nissan Tiidas and a Toyota Premio, were quickly confirmed as stolen, Senior Sergeant Simon Cornish says.
“Officers on the ground swiftly put down spikes along Maraetai Coast Road, which all three vehicles drove over. One of the Nissans and the Toyota came to a stop a short time later and four people were taken into custody.”
The third vehicle continued driving through to Clevedon, towards Papakura, and was spiked again.
“The driver has continued on until all tyres were obliterated and undrivable. Police then [took] the two occupants into custody,” Cornish adds.
“These youths are lucky that their driving didn’t end in serious injuries – for themselves or any other members of the public.”
Six people, aged between 13 and 16, have been referred to Youth Aid Services.
