It’s a common situation – a vehicle fails a Warrant of Fitness (WOF) check due to
faults as minor as not having enough windscreen wiper fluid or a blow bulb.
Before a WOF expires, a quick inspection can help save time and money while
ensuring any work required can be undertaken when it suits you best.
Start by checking that all lights are working properly, including headlights, brake
lights, indicators, and reverse lights.
Tyres have enough tread depth – at least 1.5mm tread depth across 75 per cent –
and inflated to the right pressure.
Test the brakes to ensure they respond smoothly and listen for unusual noises.
Check the windscreen for cracks, especially on the driver’s seat, and confirm the
wipers are in working order.
Seatbelts should fasten securely without damage. Also inspect mirrors, the horn and doors to ensure everything functions properly. Under the bonnet, check oil, coolant and brake fluid levels, and look for leaks or worn belts.
Remove unnecessary clutter from the car so inspectors have easy access.
Many minor faults can be easily fixed without the need for expert help and others
can then be booked in at a more convenient time.
