After a burst of heavy rain early this morning, Aucklanders can expect improving weather and a warmer end to the week.
MetService meteorologist Alanna Burrows says the heaviest falls were recorded between 8 and 9am, with observation sites near Franklin (Drury) showing accumulations of 20 millimetres in just six hours (5–11 am) as the front passed through.
The same period saw 19 lightning strikes across southern Auckland this morning.
“Conditions are now easing, with only isolated showers expected through the afternoon before clearing to fine weather this evening,” Burrows says.
“Looking ahead, Wednesday (October 8) will bring a welcome change as a ridge of high pressure settles over the North Island, delivering mostly dry and settled conditions. The day will start partly cloudy before fine spells increase during the afternoon.
“By Thursday, a warm front approaching from the Tasman Sea is forecast to bring increasing cloud and a few evening showers.
“The outlook for Friday through Sunday remains mostly partly cloudy with isolated showers.
“Temperatures are set to rise, with Friday’s high of 22°C sitting more than 4°C above average for this time of year. Showers may become more widespread by Sunday, but no severe weather is expected,” Burrows says.
