A 30-year-old man wanted for incidents involving alleged wilful damage, burglary, and threatening behaviour, was arrested in Mangere yesterday.
On August 25, the man was reportedly at a property on Coronation Road, Mangere Bridge, after arriving police say the man refused to cooperate.
“After failing to comply with an officer’s request, the man allegedly punched the officer in the arm in an attempt to escape,” says Inspector Dave Christoffersen from Counties Manukau Police.
He then allegedly ran out the back of the building, damaging a door as he fled.
The following day, police searched the area and spotted the man riding a push bike along Kirkbride Road with a new haircut, says Christoffersen.
“The man’s new hair cut didn’t cut it as a tactic for evading police,” he says.
The Police Eagle helicopter was deployed to the scene along with ground units, shortly before he was arrested.
The man will appear in court today, facing charges of assaulting a first responder, escaping police custody, wilful damage, threatening behaviour, and three counts of breaching release conditions.
