Who likes sports shorts? For those who like their sports brief – to the point, that is, not unnecessarily revealing! – we have a few short shots to share. High horses
Franklin’s reputation for producing some of the world’s best racehorses was taken to new heights recently.
For the first time in more than a decade, Karaka-based New Zealand Bloodstock (NZB) Airfreight flew 15 thoroughbreds to Johannesburg earlier this month.
“We’re delighted to get this route back up and running,” NZB’s Greg Northcott says. “The first load arrived safely and happy. It’s long haul, but this bunch of horses were very content passengers.
“There has been a lot of work, time and communication between both countries over the last 18 months to get this flight off the ground.”
NZB Airfreight has more than 60 years’ experience transporting horses around the world. The resumption of flights to South Africa ensures more Kiwi-bred horses will be able to compete in some of the sport’s biggest events.

It’s rare that we can announce the winner of a competition before the final is played, but this Saturday, August 29, Maramarua will be the winner on the day… and runners-up.
Placing first and second on the table, Maramarua 1 and Maramarua 2 will compete at the Pukekohe Netball Centre to decide which of the two squads will win the Premier Gold Grand Final.

Foxing on
It wasn’t the best weekend at the office for Ryan Fox, but as he secured an almost $50,000 pay cheque at the St Jude Championship in Memphis, USA, it wasn’t a bad way to spoil a good walk either.
Fox, who began playing at Whitford Golf Club, was in the swing of things again following his historic British Open win last month.
Despite finishing tied for 58th at the St Jude Championship (August 13–16), he is still on course to make a first appearance at the PGA Tour Championship towards the end of the month.
As this issue went to print, Fox was sitting safely at 24 in the rankings on the eve of the BMW Championship in St Louis. Following the BMW, the top 30 will advance to compete for all the marbles in Atlanta.
