The girders have been lifted, concrete abutment headstocks constructed and workers on utility works have been working away – we’re not certain what all of this means precisely, but we can be sure that soon enough, with a bridge built, we will be over it.
However, the progress being made in constructing the Waihoehoe Road bridge in Drury has meant some short-term pain in return for long-term gain.
Long-term traffic management has been in place at the intersection of Norrie Road, Great South Road and Waihoehoe Road with parking restricted.
From mid-July, access to Tui Street via Waihoehoe Road is closed while work to realign Tui Street is underway. Parking is still available outside the Mobil, Drury Hall, Community Library and the Drury Rugby Club. Parking also accessible on Norrie Road and at Drury Domain.
Access to the Drury Community Library, Drury Hall, and Drury Rugby Club will be off Great South Road next to the Mobil garage. It is “left in, left out” access so anyone coming from the motorway or Drury roundabout needs to follow the signage and find a safe place to turn around.
Fencing is in place along Norrie Road and Great South Road, around Premier Aluminium, while work is underway on wastewater and stormwater connections, a new retaining wall and the new intersection.
The bus stop on Great South Road has been temporarily relocated slightly north of Cameron Road. As the project progresses it will be permanently relocated.
Pedestrian access from Norrie Road down Great South Road to the shops at 231-233 Great South Road is still possible and both entrances to the shops remain open.
