Two teens are facing charges related to an alleged serious assault on a supermarket security guard late last month.
The security guard intervened to stop shoplifting at a Papakura supermarket on April 24, confirms Detective Senior Sergeant Natalie Nelson, Counties Manukau South CIB.
“Two offenders allegedly subjected the guard to an assault which required him to be taken to Middlemore Hospital for treatment,” she says. “No one should be subjected to violence or be assaulted in their place of work.”
Detectives executed search warrants earlier this week. As a result, a 17-year-old female and a 15-year-old male have both been arrested and charged with aggravated robbery. They are facing the Papakura District and Youth Courts.
Two other young people have been referred to Youth Aid.
“We will continue to hold those offenders engaging in retail crime and violent offending to account,” Nelson adds.
