A man is facing charges in court today related to a ‘firearms incident’ at the weekend.
Police responded to a report that a person had been injured with a firearm in Raglan on Saturday.
A victim who received minor injuries was assessed by an ambulance crew and a 54-year-old man was arrested.
Police then executed a search and scene examination, Detective Sergeant Rahul Badri, Waikato West CIB, confirms.
“We located and seized 50 rounds of ammunition out… and we have successfully recovered the shotgun that was allegedly used during the incident.”
Charges include committing a dangerous act with intent to injure, unlawfully possessing a firearm and unlawfully possessing ammunition.
“I am pleased we were able to take a firearm off the streets and hold this alleged offender to account – this isn’t just a positive outcome for the victim, but also for the wider Raglan community,” Badri adds.
“This investigation involved significant effort by both frontline staff and detectives, and I would like to acknowledge their excellent work in bringing this incident to a quick resolution.”
