Award-winning photographer Lisa Kearns has opened a top-notch art gallery, Lisa Kay Photography, in nearby Rangiriri.

Kearns, a member of the Pukekohe Franklin Camera Club (PFCC), says she has long dreamt of owning her own gallery.

“Opening a photography gallery has been a dream of mine since I attended my very first market [selling artwork] around six years ago. I have loved sharing my photography and I began imagining a space of my own where I could display and sell my work.”

She has loved photography since childhood, but it was during the Covid lockdowns that Kearns’ passion began to morph into a career. Now, further down the track, she shares some insight into what made her take her entrepreneurial leap of faith.

“A friend, Keely Muir, opened The Stable Light Gallery in Waiuku. Seeing her take the leap and create a gallery of her own was incredibly inspiring. Watching her live her dream gave me the confidence to pursue mine and to take the next step of opening Lisa Kay Photography.”

Kearns has incorporated a range of designer products from other small businesses in her shop as well as her own artworks.

“I am selling A4 and A3 photographic prints, both framed and unframed, featuring my own landscape, wildlife and creative fine art photography from around New Zealand,” she says.

“Alongside my work, I also stock a small selection of pieces from other creatives, including fellow photographers and makers of unique handmade gifts.

“I wanted the shop to be more than just a place to buy a print – my goal was to create a space that celebrates creativity and supports local artists while offering visitors something special to discover. By including a carefully selected range of artwork and handmade items, there is something for everyone.”

Although set in a petite building, Lisa Kay Photography is far from mundane, with quality and variety on display throughout the store. The gallery is curated by an industry expert with a true passion for her trade.

One of Lisa’s award-winning photos, titled Becoming, was featured in our June 5 edition
