Arizto real estate agent Darren Szaszy hopes to raise $90,000 to make a difference in the lives of children across the country.
“After 16 years in real estate, I realised I wanted to do more than just sell homes – I wanted to make a real difference in my community. Becoming a father of two has changed my perspective completely. Knowing there are children in New Zealand who go without life’s basic essentials really hit home.”
Szaszy initially planned to raise $10,000 but decided a goal of $90,000 would be more challenging, and every dollar closer to the higher goal would make a bigger difference to Kiwi kids.
“The cause resonates with myself and my partner now that we are parents. KidsCan are one of the charities that give a lot per dollar – 80 cents to the dollar to the kids. When raising money that’s always the big question, where does the money go?”
Szaszy says the community spirit in Franklin is excellent.
“Even $5 or $20 goes a big way to make a difference. We’d love big donations, but $5 or $10 can be a big amount for some people too, and it does go a long way to support these kids.
“This fundraiser has given me a new sense of purpose, energy, and drive. Every morning I wake up excited, knowing that each conversation, meeting and connection could help change a child’s life.”
A house on Queen Street will be auctioned off to aid the cause.
“We also have a very generous vendor who is giving us a very good property in Pukekohe to auction off and we are going to donate all of our commission to KidsCan. The vendor is moving so it’s also a nice way to farewell Franklin.”
The campaign will wrap up with a charity dinner auction night on Thursday, October 22 at Appetite in Pukekohe.
“We plan to sell 300 tickets and have some major prizes, and we are currently planning a charity fun run with Navigation Homes.
“Together, let’s prove what a community can achieve when we rally behind Kiwi kids. Thank you for being part of the journey. Let’s make a lasting difference.”
