Silver Ferns’ shooter Amelia Walmsley had a relatively short-lived homecoming.
Coming back to Auckland after playing for the Pulse in Wellington, the Beachlands local was a linchpin for the Northern Stars this season.
However, the Melbourne Vixens recently secured her services for next year’s Super Netball competition.
Walmsley says that she’s excited to embrace the new challenge ahead.
“I’m so grateful for this incredible opportunity. I know I’m going to be challenged in ways I’ve never been challenged before and I’m really looking forward to embracing that.”
Since making her Silver Ferns debut, Walmsley has earned 18 caps. Most recently, she was part of the Commonwealth Games gold-winning squad.
In addition to her adept shooting, she is also fast building experience as a leader, having captained New Zealand at the Netball World Youth Cup last year.
Although she will be missed by Stars fans, it appears as though the opportunity to join the 2025 Super Netball champion Vixens was too good to let slip through her fingers.
“To compete in the best league and immerse myself in an environment with such a strong history of success is so exciting,” Walmsley says.
“I can’t wait to learn from and be surrounded by such amazing players and coaching staff. I’m really looking forward to seeing what I can contribute to the Vixens and, ultimately, what we can achieve together!” Vixens head coach Di Honey says Walmsley will be a valuable addition.
“Amelia is an exciting young talent who has already shown she can perform on the international stage,” she adds.
“She brings presence, athleticism and a strong willingness to learn and we believe she will be a great fit for our programme. “We’re looking forward to welcoming her into the Vixens environment and supporting her with her continued development.”
