More than 2400 nominations have been cut down to the best 100 dishes with two local (or near enough) selections taking the cake in the 2026 Iconic Auckland Eats.
Clevedon’s Farm House Cafe scored a hit with its slow-cooked brisket and Takanini’s Blacksmith Eatery and Bar (also owned by the operators of Pukekohe’s Fire Station) made the grade due to its seafood chowder.
The initiative’s organisers at Tātaki Auckland Unlimited praised both offerings:
‘The slow-cooked brisket on warm homemade sourdough was rich, simple and unforgettable, the kind of honest cafe food that makes Auckland special.
‘Every spoon of [the] seafood chowder is a taste of Auckland – rich, creamy and loaded with fresh seafood. It sparks laughter, shared stories and the warm, unforgettable feeling of friends, city vibes and cozy, iconic evenings!’
Iconic Auckland Eats reflects the region’s identity, Tātaki Auckland Unlimited’s Annie Dundas says.
“[It] is driven by the public. These dishes carry memory and meaning – where whānau gather, friendships form and visitors are welcomed.
“Food is also one of the most powerful ways we share Auckland with the world. When travellers are seeking out local cuisine to understand a place, this list offers an authentic snapshot of the dishes Aucklanders genuinely love.”
Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown added his compliments to the chefs.
“Iconic Auckland Eats celebrates the creativity and resilience of our hospitality sector,” he says. “These businesses bring people together every day and play a vital role in Auckland’s vibrancy and economy.”
