A Fast-track Referral Application for a ‘managed fill’ has come to a full stop, much to the delight of the Hunua Ararimu Paparimu Valley Residents Association (HAPVRA).
As previously covered, the withdrawal of resource consent for the project at Jones Road, Hunua, provided a reprieve; now, the Fast-track application has been declined as well.
“We have some very exciting news,” HAPVRA’s Maxine Clayton told the Times. “We’ve done it again, killed off the second managed fill proposal! It won’t progress to the next stage of the Fast-Track process so there is huge excitement here.
“But we’re not going to rest,” Clayton adds. “We’ve got to try to get the Hunua Ranges more protection so this doesn’t happen again.”
If the proposal had been fast-tracked, residents would have had a 790,000m³ managed fill for building waste on their doorsteps with 192 daily truck movements through the narrow, winding Hunua Gorge.
