A fresh new menu has dropped anchor at the Papahua Reserve Camp Shop in Raglan.
After receiving 16 strong applicants, the Waikato District Council recently selected the new operators to take over the lease at this iconic seaside spot.
The keys have been handed over to long-time locals, Tina Ireson, Warrick Harris, and their son Sam Harris, who now run the Anchor Inn Takeaways.
Tina is the creme de la creme when it comes to serving fish and chips. She moved to Raglan as a child when her parents bought the Duck Inn Dairy and Raglan Fresh Fish, and she’s been cooking fish and chips on and off ever since.
Warrick, meanwhile, has been ‘serving’ fish in a different way, working as a commercial fisherman out of Raglan for more than 25 years. Now stepping ashore from that chapter, he’s keen to bring his experience (and love of good kai) into this new venture.
Since opening on December 4, the trio have been busy.
“We’ve got pretty sore feet and may need to buy some new shoes, but everything has been going really well,” Warrick says.
“It’s a bit of hard work getting everything ready, but we’re loving every minute of it. Everyone has been so welcoming, and we can’t wait to share our favourite kai.”
What is on the menu? All the Kiwi favourites! Classic fish and chips, snacks and ice cream, with healthier options to come as they settle in.
Anchor Inn Takeaways is open daily from 10am to 8pm this summer, serving beachgoers, campers, and hungry locals — so fish ’n’ chip fans, grab your jandals and grab a bite.
