New spectacular views showing this year’s progress of construction on Rā Hihi, the Reeves Road Flyover, have been revealed to the Times.
Sky View Photography NZ has exclusively made the aerial photographs available to the Times and they plot the course of building east Auckland’s largest piece of public infrastructure in decades.
Rā Hihi/Reeves Road Flyover is one part of the multimillion-dollar Eastern Busway public transport project that has been constructed in sections over the past decade.
Auckland Transport (AT) recently announced that construction of the long-awaited flyover is ahead of schedule and will partially open from October 1.
AT says it’s set to reduce congestion around Pakūranga town centre and one of New Zealand’s busiest road intersections – Ti Rakau Drive and the South-Eastern Highway.
The flyover will provide a direct motoring link between Pakūranga Road and the South-Eastern Highway, reducing local traffic during peak hours, AT says.
Rā Hihi/Reeves Road Flyover is set down to open from the beginning of October, five months earlier than expected.
AT says it will be open to citybound traffic on October 1 and in both directions from October 27.
Before the opening of the flyover to motorists, major work is necessary on Pakūranga Road that will disrupt traffic while lane layouts change, AT says.
“From Saturday, September 20, to Friday, October 24, there will be fewer lanes on Pakūranga Road to enable Rā Hihi (flyover) to open,” says AT group manager Jane Small.
“The most disruptive work will take place during the school holidays between September 20 and September 27, when there is less traffic.
“Drivers should expect congestion and delays, and we suggest planning ahead to avoid travelling at peak times if possible.
“We will be working round the clock to get the job done,” Small says.
