A 29-year-old man is facing drug and driving charges in the Papakura District Court today after an argument brought him to the attention of police.
Late last night, a couple was spotted having an argument at a set of lights in Takanini. Police signalled for the driver of the Toyota Prius to pull over, however the situation quickly escalated, Senior Sergeant Allan Nixon confirms.
“The vehicle pulled over, however it failed to remain and fled at speed on the wrong side of the road.”
No pursuit was initiated but, after enquiries revealed the vehicle had been stolen. The Eagle helicopter and multiple ground units searched for the vehicle which was soon located on Waiari Road, Conifer Grove.
“Officers moved in and boxed the vehicle in, taking the driver into custody without incident, Nixon says. “It’s extremely lucky the dangerous driving didn’t result in anyone suffering serious injuries.
“It’s also a great example of officers looking out for everyone in our community and responding to people in need.”
The driver of the vehicle has been charged with a raft of charges including failing to stop, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, driving while suspended, possession of methamphetamine, possession of cannabis and dangerous driving.
