Locals turned up the tap on native planting at Pukekohe’s Ray Fausett Reserve recently.
Volunteers from the World Mission Society Church of God planted approximately 500 native trees at the reserve earlier this month, Ratu Meli Sydney Saulekaleka confirms.
“We planted Harakeke, kowhai, kanuka and ti kouka with the guidance and support of Auckland Council’s planting contractors,” says Saulekaleka. “Our church is based in Mount Wellington, but the Pukekohe branch is also part of our church’s community. We chose to carry out the planting in Pukekohe because we wanted to contribute positively through our volunteer service.”
The initiative wasn’t just about trees, it was about people too, he adds.
“For us, caring for the environment is also a way of showing love and gratitude to the community while being a positive opportunity for our members to work together as well,” Saulekaleka says. “We hope these trees will grow and benefit the local people and area for many years to come.”
