Buying a used vehicle can save you thousands, but only if you know what to look for before you commit.
Service history sometimes matters more than low kilometres; a well-maintained car with higher kilometres often has fewer surprises ahead.
Check tyre condition too; a quality set can easily cost between $1000 and $2000 to replace, so factor that into your decision.
Look closely at brake discs and pads, and make sure warning lights illuminate at ignition, then switch off once the engine starts.
Uneven panel gaps can hint at previous accident repairs, and it’s worth testing every electronic feature, including air conditioning, windows, infotainment and cameras.
An independent pre-purchase inspection is one of the best investments you can make. If buying privately, always confirm there’s no money owing and verify ownership before handing over payment.
