Description
This is a full-time, permanent position (minimum 40 hours per week – normal week 40 hours) working with a range of horses, including young sport horses and Thoroughbreds, through to competition-level horses.
The role requires a rider who is confident producing young horses from early education through to ridden work and ongoing training, with a strong focus on horse welfare and correct development. With the ability to show videos of show jumping. at a strong level.
Key Responsibilities
- Breaking in, handling, and educating young horses, including Thoroughbreds
- Establishing correct foundation training, including groundwork and early ridden work
- Schooling horses on the flat and over fences to improve balance, rhythm, and rideability
- Producing horses for sale, competition, or further advancement
- Assessing horse behaviour and tailoring training programmes accordingly
- Riding multiple horses per day to a consistent and professional standard
- Assisting with competition preparation and attendance where required
- Maintaining high standards of horse care, health monitoring, and welfare
Required Skills & Experience
- A minimum of 3 years proven experience (or a NZ Register Level 4 qualification), breaking in and producing young horses, including Thoroughbreds
- Confident, balanced, and effective riding ability across a range of horses
- Strong understanding of equine behaviour, training principles, and horse development
- Ability to ride and manage young, green, and performance horses safely and competently
- Experience working within a professional equestrian or racing/stable environment
- Ability to work independently, manage workload, and maintain consistency in training
- High level of attention to detail in horse care and stable management
- Physically fit and capable of meeting the demands of a hands-on role
- Formal qualifications in equine studies or significant industry experience will be highly regarded.
