As part of Tōtara Hospice’s marathon team, local runners and walkers will be hitting the pavement to raise vital funds to support specialist palliative care services.
The organisation provides care at no cost to patients facing terminal illness and their families.
It’s partnering with local gyms and community groups to spread the word and encourage people to get involved in this year’s Auckland Marathon. The marathon is being staged on Sunday, November 2, and attracts tens of thousands of keen participants each year.
Whether they’re a seasoned runner or just looking for a meaningful challenge, it’s a chance to make a real difference in people’s lives.
Clarice, a physiotherapist at Tōtara Hospice who’s also featured in the TV3 documentary Hospice Heroes, is one of the voices inspiring the campaign.
“I’m running this marathon as ‘Hug-a-Lot Clarice’ to support the patients and families cared for by Tōtara Hospice,” she says.
“Every step I take is for those facing life-limiting illness, for the moments that matter, the comfort we provide, and the dignity every person deserves at the end of life.”
“This cause is deeply personal to me, and I’m committed to helping ensure no one has to face their journey alone.
“By fundraising, I hope to keep Tōtara Hospice’s vital services available and free for our community.
“This run is for love, for life, and for the incredible people we have the privilege of supporting every day.”
