A fire has disrupted day one of the new City Rail Link (CRL).
Services resumed within an hour after a small fire was discovered at Waitematā Station earlier this morning, Auckland Transport (AT) confirms.
Train services through CRL tunnels were suspended at about 6am after smoke and fire were found in a lighting cable above one of the Waitematā Station platforms.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) crews responded quickly to extinguish the fire.
The fire is unrelated to any CRL systems, AT says.
‘Our teams will be working to get services back up and running as quickly as possible, but this will take some time because trains will need to be moved back to the right position for running usual services,” an AT statement reads.
‘We’d like to thank Aucklanders for their patience and understanding as we’ve worked through this issue this morning.’
