Tens of thousands are expected to apply to work during the 2026 general election with recruitment now under way.
The Electoral Commission will need more than 22,000 people across the country to help deliver the election, held on Saturday, November 7.
“An election depends on local communities participating, including being part of the election workforce,” chief electoral officer Karl Le Quesne says.
“If you want to support your local community to have their say then please apply.”
The commission is looking for people with attention to detail who are organised, efficient and excited to be part of the election team.
Roles range from greeting voters to issuing voting papers, logistical support and administration.
“These aren’t voluntary roles, they’re paid and full training is provided,” Le Quesne says.
“You can work full-time, part-time, or even just for a day. There are opportunities that could suit students and others looking for some work experience. “You may be part of one of New Zealand’s most important events while you build your CV,” Le Quesne adds.
“Many people return to work for us during election years and we’d also love to hear from them again.”
