Two alleged thieves were arrested yesterday for attempting to steal copper from an abandoned house in South Auckland.
Senior Sergeant Tony Ngau Chun from NZ Police says the two men were seen at about 3.45pm inside a property on Nissan Place, Onehunga.
“One of the men was crawling around beneath the house as if he was looking for something,” Chun says.
Police units arrived shortly after and arrested one man, while a Delta Dog Unit tracked the second man further away from the address.
“These alleged offenders were attempting to take advantage of the house being unoccupied and help themselves to the copper piping,” Chun says.
A 48-year-old man will appear in court today facing a burglary charge.
Police say enquiries are ongoing with further charges likely.
