When Arean completed her Level 4 Residential Property Management through Skills Institute, she was asked to return as an assessor, marking assessments.

“It’s a great way to keep up to date with all the new regulations as they come in,” she says.

One thing people don’t always realise about property managers is that they are in between landlords and tenants.

“Landlords sometimes think that you only on the on the tenant side, and tenants often think you only on the landlord side. But we’re actually not. We are in between and have to obey the law as well – having the knowledge of what each party can do is really important for everyone.”

That’s where Arean’s more than 16 years of experience comes into play.

She also has excellent knowledge of the construction industry, owning Versatile Pukekohe with her husband Wenny since 2016.

Versatile Pukekohe won a silver award at the recent 2026 Auckland, Northland, and Coromandel Registered Master Builders House of the Year for a home in Te Kauwhata.

“I’m very proud of our silver award. It’s our tenth award since we bought into the company.

“It’s really useful to have that construction knowledge as it helps me pick up any issues with properties a lot quicker.”

Arean’s wealth of knowledge gives landlords Alex and Anke confidence in her approach.
