Looking for a different view of the Manukau Heads? Try heading north to Wattle Downs and walking the Wattle Downs North Path, a popular shared path along the beautiful northern coastline of the Wattle Downs peninsula.
The path connects Aberdeen Crescent and Bluewater Place via the picturesque Reremoana/Wattle Downs Esplanade Reserve.
The suggested starting point is at Iwinuku Crescent (off Aberdeen Crescent), where you can find a car park. You can also do the path in reverse, starting at Bluewater Place.
The path is paved and mainly flat, with a few hills along the way. It is family friendly and suitable for pushchairs and bikes. Remember to give way as the track can be busy at times!
Enjoy beautiful views of the coast and Manukau Heads. Look out for wading birds like the torea (oystercatcher) and the whitefaced heron.
This route is a local favourite. Enjoy meeting locals who are out and about walking their dogs and relaxing with their families.
Around the halfway point, there is a playground at Reremoana/Wattle Downs Esplanade Reserve (Aberdeen Crescent section, around 20 metres off the track). It is a perfect spot to take a break with your underfives and grab a bite to eat.
Bear in mind that there are no public toilets along the route. The nearest public toilets are located in the Wattle Down Farm Reserve,
several hundred metres from Bluewater Place (the start and finish point of the pathway).
At Aberdeen Crescent, you can extend your journey to the Wattle Downs South Path by riding a short 400m on-road section on quiet residential streets. The fully paved path is mostly flat with a few small hills.
It’s a favourite with local families and is suitable for all ages and abilities. The track is suitable for pushchairs and bikes – and there is a small playground at Papakiri/Saint Annes Foreshore at the southern end for kids to let off some steam.
