The Pukekohe Franklin Camera Club (PFCC) has been in fine form recently. In addition to our showcase – see our arts pages for more – we’ve been sent this remarkable photo. Titled A Feathered Friend, the image by Lisa Kearns won the club’s July competition.
“Not every photograph comes from a planned photo shoot,” Kearns says. “I had my camera with me while visiting a friend’s place when Daniela, who absolutely adores animals, met these beautiful little chicks.
“The moment she gently held one in her hand, I knew I had to capture it. There was no posing and no direction – just a little girl completely captivated by a tiny, feathered friend.
“It’s these authentic, unscripted moments that often make my favourite photographs. Daniela’s sparkling blue eyes, gentle smile and the trust between her and the little chick came together to create a portrait that feels full of warmth, innocence, and connection.
“Sometimes, the best photographs aren’t created, they simply happen.”
