The “JB” behind JB’s Flooring Xtra is John Bannister, who began his flooring career at just 15 after leaving Waiuku College. Starting as a flooring apprentice, John has spent more than 50 years doing what he loves – serving the local community and sharing his passion for flooring.
Today, JB’s Flooring Xtra is proudly owned and operated by John and Catherine Bannister and remains a true family business. Together, the Bannister family brings more than 150 years of combined flooring experience, including over 120 years dedicated to building and growing JB’s Flooring Xtra.
John and Catherine remain actively involved in the business, working from their showroom in the Pukekohe Mega Centre and, more recently, their Waiuku showroom on Queen Street.
Three of their adult children hold key leadership roles within the business, while their fourth works independently as a flooring installer and regularly completes installations for JB’s Flooring Xtra. The wider family is also represented, with another family member working in sales and another employed by one of their trusted flooring contractors.
Family is at the heart of JB’s Flooring Xtra, and John and Catherine consider every team member part of the JB family. They value the long-standing relationships they have built with their staff, many of whom have been with the business for years. Together, the team provides the friendly, knowledgeable and trusted service customers have come to expect.
John and Catherine are equally grateful to the many customers who have supported the business over the years and trusted them to help choose flooring for their homes and businesses.

Our professional installation team can take care of the entire process, from lifting and disposing of existing flooring where required, through to floor preparation and installation, ensuring a quality finish from start to finish.
