Hard on the heels of the latest mass bike ride in south Auckland, police in Waikato are also responding to a recent increase in incidents involving young people riding bicycles around the city.
Over recent weeks, police have seen more anti-social and disorderly behaviour from youths riding bicycles around the central city, along with bicycle thefts from the city and surrounding suburbs.
Police are working with Hamilton City Council and its City Safe team to use CCTV to identify those responsible.
“We will not tolerate this type of behaviour, including riding dangerously on the roads and confronting members of the public,” Senior Sergeant John Hill says.
A number of offenders have already been identified, resulting in arrests and referrals to youth support services.
Police are asking the public to report any disorderly, threatening or suspicious behaviour around bicycles.
