The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) has been undertaking “regular training” exercises in the Hauraki Gulf between the Pohutukawa Coast and Waiheke Island.
The Times was contacted by readers in the Beachlands, Maraetai area yesterday (August 16) asking about the activity in the Tamaki Strait that involved a privately-owned SeaLink vehicle ferry, and two dark-coloured NZDF helicopters and two small on-the-water craft.
A NZDF spokesperson has told the Times today: “The NZDF is conducting routine training in the Auckland region.
“The training involves the use of military helicopters, small boats and civilian vessels. The NZDF conducts regular training to maintain readiness for directed military outputs.”
