A shopping mall has been in a security lockdown this Thursday afternoon following reports of a firearms incident.
The Times was contacted by readers who said they were being diverted away from the Sylvia Park shopping mall in Mt Wellington by police, and that there is a strong police presence at the popular destination.
Armed police officers have been seen in the area, as well as Hato Hone St John Ambulance paramedics.
Police told the Times at 4pm they’ve responded to an incident near Sylvia Park Mall this afternoon.
“The incident has concluded and there is no risk to public safety.
“There will be a continued police presence in the area as enquiries are undertaken however, so the public is asked to avoid the area.
“Further information will be released as soon as possible.”
Hato Hone St John says it was notified of an incident in Mt Wellington at 2.53pm on August 13, and responded with an ambulance, two operations managers and a rapid response vehicle.
