A tip-off from the public led to the arrest of two men wearing balaclavas near Puni yesterday afternoon.
Police say that at 3.15pm on Sunday, they received a report of two men on Rogers Road wearing balaclavas and removing items from a yard.
Counties Manukau South Area Prevention Manager, Inspector Matt Hoyes, says the informant was able to provide detailed descriptions of the alleged offenders and their vehicle, a green SUV.
“Officers then responded to the area and located a vehicle matching the description parked near Masters Road. While there, police received a further two calls reporting suspicious males on properties in the area.”
Hoyes says the Police Eagle helicopter was called in to assist and directed staff to a person seen hiding in nearby bush.
“A short time later another unit patrolling the area observed the second person exiting a nearby address with a bicycle he had just stolen from the property. He was taken into custody without incident.”
Hoyes thanked the person who saw suspicious activity and contacted police straight away.
A 24-year-old man has been charged with burglary, possession of cannabis, possession of utensils for methamphetamine and failure to carry out obligations in relation to a computer search. Another man, 36, has been charged with two counts of burglary. Both have been remanded on bail to appear in Pukekohe District Court on August 12, and all property has since been recovered.
