The small makeup changes that make the biggest difference

When people ask me what beauty product they should buy next, my answer is often surprising: Before purchasing anything new, learn how to get more from what you already own.

Beautiful makeup isn’t about owning hundreds of products. It’s about understanding where to place them, how much to use, and choosing formulas that work with your skin rather than against it.

One of the easiest ways to elevate your makeup is to prepare your skin first. Well hydrated skin creates a smoother canvas, helping foundation and concealer blend more naturally and last longer throughout the day. A lightweight moisturiser suited to your skin type is often all you need.

When choosing a foundation, don’t automatically reach for full coverage. A light to medium coverage formula can create a fresher, more skin-like finish while still evening out your complexion. If you need extra coverage, apply concealer only where it’s needed instead of layering on more foundation.

Powder is another product that’s often overused. Rather than setting your entire face, focus on areas that naturally become oily, such as the T-zone or under the eyes. This helps maintain your skin’s natural glow while extending the wear of your makeup.

Blush is one of the quickest ways to bring life back into the face. Whether you prefer cream
or powder formulas, placing blush slightly higher on the cheeks can create a lifted, fresh appearance. Start with a small amount and build gradually; it’s always easier to add than
remove.

For the eyes, you don’t need a complicated routine. A soft wash of a neutral shade through the eyelid crease, paired with defined lashes and groomed brows, creates a polished look suitable for both everyday wear and special occasions.

When it comes to lips, think about comfort as much as colour. Hydrated lips allow any product, whether it’s a tinted balm, lipstick or gloss to be applied more evenly and wear better throughout the day. Keeping a nourishing lip product in your handbag is one
of the simplest beauty habits you can adopt.

Perhaps the most valuable beauty tip of all is this: makeup should enhance your features,
not hide them.

The goal isn’t perfection; it’s helping you feel like the most confident version of yourself.

The best beauty routines are the ones you’ll actually enjoy doing. Start simple, practise
often, and remember that confidence will always be your most beautiful feature.
