Evil Dead Burn

RATING: Three and a half stars
Evil Dead Burn is the gruesome return to the Evil Dead universe. Although it serves as the weakest in the franchise, it still delivers better than some franchises’ best. Burn is still able to deliver signatures of the franchise that are still on par with its predecessors.
Whether it’s gore, laughs or basements, Burn still has you asking, “What the hell?” and although the film may look a bit drab, the movement of the camera is exquisite. The way that the camera is able to move through multiple action set pieces without scenes feeling overstuffed is great.
The drama at the centre of the film is also really compelling, albeit a tiny bit generic. After the death of her husband, Alice tries to handle the healing process amongst her in-laws in the most extreme way possible.
Although horrific, horror films are still able to capture that grounded emotional tragedy within the chaos, and that stems from the outsider cliché that characters suffer from when marrying into new families that viewers might resonate with (just not the same way Alice does).
Burn keeps the Evil Dead franchise’s hot streak and proves how good the French are at body horror.
